Description

Dr. Cosgrave attended Utah State University where he competed in the high jump and decathlon before going to medical school at LECOM. After completing his family medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at Utah Valley, he served as a physician for Real Salt Lake, Utah Grizzlies, and US Speedskating. He is currently part of the clinical faculty at Noorda teaching clinical labs and OMM.

Medical schools typically teach relatively little about nutrition. Due to the increase in information regarding nutrition research and common food sources, our understanding of how nutrition affects our health has increased, but has also become complex and confusing. Review current nutrition influence on common disease states including musculoskeletal conditions.

Primary Learning Objective: Review the influence of nutrition on common medical and musculoskeletal conditions. Review limitations biases associated with nutrition research. Define inflammation and inflammatory biomarkers. Discuss inflammatory influence on common disease states. Identify influences of industrial food production. Discuss macronutrients and effects on inflammation. Review nutrition related to musculoskeletal conditions. Give general guidelines for helping patients.
