Nutrition and the Brain


A scientific discussion of diet patterns for overall brain health and how those patterns as well as specific nutrients can play a role in the brain through wellness, aging, mental health, and traumatic injury.

Taught by Jennifer Bowden, she is the Director of Research and Dietitian at Summit Brain, Spine, and Orthopedics as well as an adjunct instructor in BYU’s dietetics program. Her PhD is in Exercise Physiology, examining nutrient flow in the intervertebral disc. Her current research interests are perioperative nutrition, nutrition in pain management, and improving patient surgical outcomes.

  • Discuss the impact of nutrition on brain trauma.
  • Understand the gut brain-microbiome axis.
